Q: What can you engrave with a laser?
A: Our co2 laser can engrave almost any nonmetallic surface.

Many species of wood are very desirable to laser engrave, along with
black marble, granite, glass, crystal, leather, rubber, many types
of plastic, acrylic, anodized aluminum, Pyrex®, ceramic tile, Corian®
and other solid surface products, Paper and some cloth products.
Q:
What can’t you laser engrave?
A: Most metal is unsuitable to engrave with a co2 laser.
We cannot engrave any PVC based plastics.
However
·
Many coated metals can be laser etched.
·
And many metal surfaces Such as stainless steel, brass and gold can
be engraved with a co2 laser, by applying a special clear coating to
prepare the metal first.
Q: Will the laser damage my gift?
A: A co2 laser is very powerful and can be dangerous to both the
product being engraved and the laser operator.
·
With proper training and experience, operating the laser can be done
with minimal risk to both.
Q: What kind of photograph do you need to have to create my gift?
A: The best quality photo you have is always the first choice.
·
IF you are scanning a photo to send to us please use at least 300dpi
or higher for proper results.
Save your photo as a uncompressed file if possible.
jpeg photo files lose data because this type of file compresses the
data.
·
Remember that we can touch-up your photo to remove things like
blemishes and unwanted background.
·
We cannot make a fuzzy photo sharp!
·
A 5x7 or larger will produce better results than smaller photos.
·
We can use both color and black and white photos.
Q: What about copyrighted photos?
A: We do not use copyrighted items without the express consent of
the owner of the copyright.
·
We have neither the time nor resources to check all the copyright
issues involved with every photo sent to us.
·
By sending us a photo to engrave we (laser
sharp memories™ and its employees)
will assume that you are the owner of the copyright or have express
written permission to reproduce the image.
·
Please do not copy images off of the internet.
·
Virtually every image on the internet is by definition copyrighted.
And most are saved at a very low dpi and would make poor engravings
anyway.
Q: How long does it take?
A: That varies greatly and depends on…
·
The quality of the photo and how much rework or touchup is needed.
·
The size of the item to be engraved.
·
The type of material being engraved.
·
Availability of the material chosen to work with.
·
But it is generally safe to say that you can get your gift delivered
to you within two to three weeks.
·
Some turnaround times will be considerably shorter or longer.
·
If you have a time frame, please email us and ask for an estimated
time of completion.
·
We can do some jobs as a rush for a slight up charge.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Again, this varies with…
·
The quality of the photo and how much rework or touchup is needed.
·
The size of the item to be engraved.
·
The type of material being engraved.
·
Availability of the material chosen to work with.
·
Our birch photo engraved products are $.50 per square inch, so a 6x6
birch plaque will be $18.00 plus shipping and handling.
·
This price includes one half hour of photo work, two coats of clear
sealer and the birch or Aspen.
·
For an extra fee of $4.00 you can have a personalized message
engraved on the back.
·
There is no charge for adding a small amount of text to the front of
the photo engraving.
·
We also offer a 5inch plastic stand to hold your 6x6 engraving at a
cost of $2.00.
